School for Rohan!

This is my blog.. and this lil dude seems to be typing away to glory! So let me tell u an episode which though related to our lil shaitan chiku but well .. sotu gaddu you were not there so you don’t know the details!

So people… this is about Rohan’s school admission! Yes you read it right .. school admission. Relax he is going to join the playgroup, but this is school otherwise is a full fledged one.

So this is how it all happened. This school is called Future Kids (They are kids now itself but they will be futuristic adults.. so should be called Future adults??? Heee hee, I didn’t ask the question to the Principal.. had I did that.. I don’t think I would be writing this blog about this particular school! :) ) We have heard about the school’s good reputation and teaching techniques. If all goes as being told by other parents and the school.. then I should NOT be doing Rohan’s school work and projects. I hate schools who expect parents to do all projects .. I mean a) there is hardly time for parents to do all that and secondly what’s the point then , might as well parents attend the classes…. Anyways lets see how it turns out.
A lil digression: I remember i used to get projects in school for which i had to beg my father to help. My mother is as bad at creativity as me when it comes to craft. So Christmas tree of Thermocol sheet. Baba cut it all that was expected of me was to stick a green velvet sheet to it and glitter. I botched it up .. mine was worse in the class. Once we had to make woolen cap, my granny made that. I mean how backwas were those projects. Coasters of net which neither anyone uses nor it made a better human being. What were they thinking?

Sorry lets go back to the topic, so now we called up the principal whom my MIL knows through some connections….She said once the “Process” starts they will call. Process mind people process… the kid can’t even pee by himself yet.. and there is a process already for him. Its hilarious if one thinks about it.

So the process starts with a call from the school asking us the parents to land up in the school office at 2pm on a particular day in November… mind you the kid in question here has to go to play group in june… but we didn’t know this.. we (read me) would have been fine had they asked Rohan to come to play group in Jan itself! (H ah ah ah what mother he has na. But u have to see him to believe it.. he will enjoy playing )

So like good dedicated parents we reached the school. This was supposed to be an open house. Where 20 odd set of parents had been summoned. We had been smart enough and privileged enough (privileged because this was a Saturday and we had a nanny to leave Rohan to) to have not brought our ward with us. Other parents had, ha haa.. you should have seen the site, mainly where kids were 2years plus. One kid wanted to go and play in the play grounds of the school then itself.. meeting or no meeting.. he wanted to go, He was wailing as if his parents were refusing him his very life. The meeting was held in the office which is next to the schools branch which has the play group and classes till UKG (to all those who do not have kids or they are still dazed with a few month old baby to manage let me educate you.. kid starts with play group > Nursery > Lower KG > Upper Kg and then comes class 1, don’t worry 6 months back I didn’t care either to know this .. so you will reach there.. wait for the right time! :) ha ah ah aha)

While taking our seats in the hall.. as expected Ramesh wanted to sit in the last row.. I was like “Arrey bĂȘte ke liye to aage wali seat pe baith jao”, well the dedicated father obliged. But later when we got a 3 page back to back printed form to fill, I realized that back seat would have been better.. will tell you why. Why because we both couldn’t stop laughing at all those questions that we were expected to fill. Nothing wrong with questions but we were amused that we were doing this for sotu gaddu who still thinks his curd rice is better to play with rather than put in his mouth. To add to it, Ramesh had the same answer for almost all questions.

Let me tell you about the form. Initial info was standard name, address, parents name, occupation etc. Then came the meaty questions.
What are three values that you would want your child to inculcate?
Ramesh first reply” Free spirited” , rest two shweta you decide. Awesome, so we rake our brains to come up with two more .. I think it would be two more adjectives. We laughed a lil ki bhai khud kabhi nahi socha kya values hain apne aap mein bĂȘte ke liye decide kar rahein hai abhi se.

What are three values that you as a family respect (or sthng like tha)?
Ramesh again says ” Free spirited” , I was like what bull shit I can’t put same in this too. He as always..kyun kahan likha hai aisa…. No we can’t tell me something else. So you get the picture, we were trying to fill a form here. We seemed to be the only ones laughing. Other parents were so serious. ( I was imaging what the site would have been had our batch from B-school had been in that room as parents , trying to fill the form… even as parents some of us would have passed the choicest of comments on each question!)

Questions like: What should the school inculcate ? What do you think about uniforms ? etc was left to me.

After forms were filled and collected , the principal came. She is a 40+ woman who is very passionate about the school and new teaching ways. She talked about all the philosophy etc. So there will be no exams till class 5th. There will be weekly assessment. Teaching is not limited to books. Lots of practical way of teaching etc.

So if All Izz Well… this school is good atleast the # of students per class is very less as compared to schools we went to.

And oh BTW.. don’t even ask me how much we paid. I thanks god for his blessing and my parents and in-laws that we can afford it! (Parents because they educated and moulded me, and in-laws for doing the same for Ramesh. Bhai explaining kyun ki some of you readers should not smirk that by thanking in-laws shweta is being politically correct! Arrey yaar .. I can be everything but politically correct… I don’t harbor such virtues ! :)
)
